To send money, the sender must visit any bank branch or partner location, presenting a valid, original, and photo-bearing identification document accepted by Western Union (e.g., for Romanian residents: identity card or residence permit; for non-residents: identity card for EU citizens, passport, etc.).
For the money transfer to be correctly initiated, the sender must provide the WU operator with the following details:
- Recipient’s full name
- Destination country (the transaction will be available for payout only in that country); for federal states (e.g., USA, Canada, Mexico), the specific state/province must be indicated. If the sender wants the transferred amount to be directly credited to the recipient’s bank account, relevant banking details must be provided (e.g., IBAN code for accounts in EU banks).
The amount to be transferred can be deposited in RON or EURO; the transfer service fee varies depending on the amount transferred, the currency used, the destination country, and the selected payout method (“within minutes”, “after 1 hour”, “directly into the recipient’s bank account”, etc.).
The transfer details are provided by the customer and entered into the Western Union system by the WU operator. Before finalizing the transaction, a printed form containing this information will be issued for verification and correction, if necessary.
Once the entered information is confirmed, a final receipt will be printed, displaying the unique 10-digit tracking code (MTCN – Money Transfer Control Number).
The maximum amount that can be sent via Western Union is the equivalent of 10,000 USD, in EURO or RON (currency conversion is performed at the exchange rate set by Western Union). For transfers exceeding 7,500 USD, prior approval from Western Union is required (this applies, for example, to humanitarian transfers or medical-related transfers, with supporting documents).
